If You're Going to Judge...

If You’re Going to Judge…

…judge others’ choices, actions, and opinions kindly and broadmindedly.

What would happen, if rather than resisting the resistance of those around you, you instead began to assume that others' attitudes and opinions are less in opposition to your own, and more a reflection of where they are coming from?

As is so for all of us, we can only meet challenges based on our own limited perspectives, filter data from our unique responses to our unique databases of experience.

When I think of how different ‘reality’ is for each one of us, I’m often mind-blown by the fact that we manage to coexist at all. There’s such a high margin for human error. Think about that for a minute..

It so happens that all this hard stuff is what makes it all worth it for us, too.

If any of this were easy, none of us would be learning anything. That doesn’t mean it has to be hard either. Hard is relative. Hard is in our minds. It’s a value judgment we place on our conditions or circumstances, but there’s no real validity to the statement, “It’s hard.” “It’s hard,” is not a Truth. It is a reflection of your attitude and a complex system of conditioning, inheritance, and beliefs/conclusions based on a set of experiences.

Yes, sucky stuff happens. The sucky stuff of life isn’t prejudiced. It cares nothing of our age, gender, race, class, style, political or sexual orientation, our favorite team, cola, or kind of pickup. Personal development, spiritual exploration, emotional literacy, and engaging community are what humans do naturally when times get challenging. Challenges will always be present. This is what it means to be in the cosmic university known as Humanity.

I’ve been told, life doesn’t necessarily get any easier, but if we’re doing the work necessary to keep ourselves happy and well, or reclaim our joy and wellness, we 'get easier'.. and are simultaneously giving the greatest service we could to the world. People who are thriving are creating.
